The Warigué (Ouarigué) bio-diversity zone (ZBD) is a region to the east of Ferkessédougou along the border of Burkina Faso with the Léraba River to the north which is joined by the Comoé as it flows from Burkina Faso into Côte d’Ivoire. The Warigué Association (Association de Gestion des Ressources et de Faune: AGEREF) was created close to the turn of the century through the West Africa Pilot Community Based Natural Resources and Wildlife Management Project of the World Bank (Gestion Participative des Ressources Naturelles et de la Faune: GEPRENAF).

 

Situated on the border of Burkina Faso along the Léraba and Comoé Rivers, the Warigué has great potential of becoming a trans-frontier park to compliment the Diéfoula conservation project to its north. It is crucial that this park also gets connected to the northern parts of Comoé National Park in order to re-establish game densities quicker as well as providing an essential wildlife corridor for migrating herds. Currently there is little to no game present within the Warigué ZBD due to excessive poaching, illegal village encroachment and significant transhumance.
